¡Caliente!: FIU PRSSA LinkedIn Group
*For those of you who don’t speak a speck of Spanish: Caliente = Hot. ;)
Things are definitely heating up on our FIU PRSSA LinkedIn group. I’ve posted several internships on our group page as well as friendly reminder why LinkedIn is important. I’m also working on maximizing LinkedIn’s worth to FIU PRSSA members. Please join and add some value. Not only does it make you look well-versed and connected, it shows how proud you are to be a FIU PRSSA member (while earning street-cred).
Want a part of the action?
1) Make sure you’re a PRSSA member.
2) Make sure you’re on LinkedIn.
3) Join the FIU PRSSA group on LinkedIn.
* You don’t have to be a PRSSA member to join our group, but wouldn’t it be great if you were?!
Get Ready For Saturday's Leadership Day
Planning an event filled year-long calendar is lots of work. It takes a team of dedicated and driven individuals to lay out an entire year of activities, meetings, and socials. While it may be hard work, it’s also lots of fun. You get to work with the people you enjoy being around with. Friendships are made, jokes are exchanged, and most importantly everyone gets to take home a nice big slice of — accomplishment.
This Saturday, June 27, FIU PRSSA will be hosting a Leadership Day just for E-Board members. All E-Board members will be getting together to make sure 2009-2010 is another great year. Unfortunately, this event is for E-Board members only. If you’d like to get in on the fun and perks, get in contact with us ASAP. Positions are still available.
Attendance is mandatory for all E-Board members. The Leadership Event starts precisely at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be served and make sure you dress comfortably.
I would advice E-Board members to come prepared with questions, possible events you’d like to host, and of course feedback.
Remember: SJMC Grammar Slammers and Grammar Tests Are Almost Here. Check your FIU email for the listed times and schedules. Good Luck! (via thismightsuck)
Virtual PR gets real on Second Life
If you thought Second Life was a waste of time, think again. Technology PR agency, Text 100, hosts virtual conferences, press tours, etc. on Second Life. Clients like Cisco set up a virtual press conference with more than 100 virtual media attendees.
Check out the video.
Here’s a cute story for animal lovers. Read how Ketchum, one of the largest PR agencies, used penguins to demonstrate FedEx’s social responsibility.
*I’m still surprised that FedEx chose to stay with Ketchum after their Twitter incident. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out Be Careful What You Post.
PR Web In Plain English
As PR students, we learn about press releases, inverted triangles, media lists and etc. but when’s the last time we heard our professors really explain to us how to get our press releases out there? This is where PRSSA steps in.
Today’s blog post is about PR Web. They turn ordinary press releases into web-friendly releases which can include photos and videos.
Let’s face it: Most research takes place online. Journalists, editors, bloggers, and analysts are scouring the web every day looking for the next big story. Web PR drives traffic to your press release and gives it a better chance at getting the publicity it deserves.
Of course, this means you should focus A LOT more about key words you use in your writing. When somebody runs a search on “eco-friendly” or “solar powered,” you’d like for your press release to show up. So use them!!!! Beware of using cheesy words like “best,” “innovative” and “amazing.” Your press release is not an ad, so don’t make it sound like one. I’m sure you all know this, so let this serve you as a reminder. :)
